Are you currently experiencing the pain of a toothache that just isn’t going away? If so, please don’t be tempted to ignore the signs and delay seeing your dentist, as toothaches only tend to worsen. While you are waiting to be seen, there are some things you can do to minimize your discomfort, and today, our Gubler Dental team in Henderson, Nevada, is happy to share some tips with you to make you as comfortable as possible in the meantime.

What to Do

When a toothache develops and persists, the first thing you should do is schedule an appointment with Dr. Chad Gubler or Dr. Sean Gubler as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent further deterioration and discomfort.

You can help relieve the pain by keeping the area around the tooth clean, washing and rinsing your mouth to make sure that seeds or other oral debris are not stuck between your teeth or around the gumline. In addition, flossing is an effective way to remove any trapped particles of food.

If the pain is pronounced, you can place a cool compress on your cheek in the area where your toothache is emanating. This may help dull the pain a bit. Another useful remedy is rinsing with salt water to help with inflammation, and it can also help to use an over-the-counter pain reliever to manage pain until you are seen.
