As you age, your teeth become more susceptible and at a greater risk for numerous oral health ailments. Due to the risks of dental erosion, cavities, dry mouth, gum disease, and oral cancer, it is important to take greater steps for your health care as you age.

To help combat the effects of dental erosion and cavities, implement an effective diet with nutritious foods that are high in calcium and phosphorus. These minerals are known to help strengthen tooth enamel. Furthermore, try to snack less and limit your intake of sugars including sugary products such as soft drinks and fruit drinks. in addition, limit the intake of hard snacks including corn kernels or similar products that can easily chip and crack your teeth.

Due to the heightened sensitivity your teeth will have after meals, never use toothpaste after eating, as it can be highly abrasive to your teeth. Instead, try using mouthwash or sugarless chewing gum. Always remember to brush twice daily and floss at least once daily. If these tasks are becoming labored or more difficult, switch to easier oral health care utensils such as electric toothbrushes and water flossers. For additional help and support, visit your dentist for oral exams, routine check-ups, and bi-annual professional cleanings.
